APW - Waltham, Riverside, 17J, Model 1888, 16S, heavy 14K multicolor gold original HC with terrific equestrian scene to rear having horse heads in three colors with diamond eyes, surrounded by a rose gold horseshoe with seven inset diamonds, front with large rose gold shield surrounded by multicolor floral detail and a rose gold horseshoe, scalloped band, gold cuvette, fancy white enamel SS dial with gold foil decoration, red accents at 5-minute positions, overpainting at signature area of an American flag, cresent moon and star symbol, and owner's name which is no longer legible, SW-SS, two-tone gilt and nickel damascene, s#7015486. Gross weight of assembled watch 79.0 dwt (122.9 g). A magnificent multicolor gold equestian case with terrific eye appeal and in-hand presence.
CONDITION:
Mvt: NR, fully wound and will tick with a twist and some excess pressure held at the crown, overhaul needed, near mint cosmetic mvt condition overall, strong two-tone color, "star" piece of regulator with some oxide and with fine scratch striations presumably from sanding; dial with flaw from surface impact inside 3:30 and resultant hls radiating outward, edge chipping largely under bezel around 12; excellent hands; case shows hardly any wear, no exterior dents or dings, upper portion of cuvette with some small gouges or dings and a fine scratch, excellent engraving detail, case front with a well executed resolder of central hinge tube, brass endcaps to front hinge; tight bow, crown shows light wear with some small ridge break; good glass crystal.
